It was early March 1983 nearing the end of winter. A few days earlier, which I think was the last week in February, the Shiraz newspaper printed a news article from the Islamic court's judge stating that 22 Bahá'ís in Shiraz were sentenced to death, (and you will see the information on the internet). A few days later, a meeting was held by the then prosecutor of Shiraz (Hojatoleslam Zia Mir-Emadi) in the prison hall, where only Bahais were present, and all ‌‌the Bahai prisoners, both male and female, were taken to this hall. In this session, the prosecutor wanted to display his power by announcing this verdict, in a way showcasing his own aggression. During his speech, he referred to Mr. Eshragh Khāvari and expressed anger at how this exemplary believer had turned away from Islam and become a Bahá'í. He said (I will try to reproduce his exact words because the furious expression of this individual has never faded from my mind), "If it was up to me (while his face was filled with rage, his mouth and face displaying hatred and anger), I would have choked Mr. Eshragh Khāvari myself with my own hands.' Then he continued, saying that he wanted to prosecute Mr. Movahhed, but Khalkhali reached him first... which made us certain and even more convinced that Mr. Movahhed had been martyred. At that time, I was 19 years old and had only heard one or two tapes of Mr Movahhed. I didn't know him in person, but I became aware of how much the faith of this extraordinary individual was causing suffering and distress to the enemies of the Cause. This notorious prosecutor's name was published in the newspapers of Iran and Shiraz a few years ago on charges of fraud.
